Im sorry…”God’s Chosen people!?” what does that make the rest of the world? I hate the way some Jews go out of their way to alienate yourselves from other people. (Im Jewish) That is why there is so much anti-semitism in the world. Israel should open it’s doors to all people, not just Jews. It cannot call itself a democracy when people of Jewish faith are treated differently than others. It makes us seem racist to want a Jewish only state. Of course you are welcome to disagree, but from my experience separatism only increases misunderstanding. Shaalom

First of all, u r unfamiliar with Israel citizenship laws which do allow those of different backrounds to become citizens. Second,u need to go to the holocaust museum in Washington DC, USA, when no nation would give refuge to holocaust refugees not even USA. Third, most nations r defined by ethnicity, Jews deserve their own nation, without everyone who already has a nation taking it over. It must be a Jewish state becuz otherwise we have nothing, and the world has proven too many times their is no room for us anywhere else.

Look how opening its borders to everyone has worked for us here in the United States. We have become a nation of inbred mutts, with no lineage, no national identity and no cohesion. We have become a nation of lawlessness, where the cries of the righteous go unheeded, where unborn children are murdered by the thousands, and our old and aged are disrespected and forgotten. While at the same time, the ungodliness and filth of the wicked are not only condoned, but promoted and encouraged.

As for God’s chosen people, the YHWH is perfectly clear: “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” – Deuteronomy 7:6

As for separating yourselves from others, or keeping yourselves pure, YHWH is perfectly clear on this as well: “When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than yourselves, and when the Lord your God gives them over to you, and you defeat them, then you must devote them to complete destruction. You shall MAKE NO COVENANT WITH THEM and show no mercy to them. You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and chop down their Asherim and burn their carved images with fire.” – Deuteronomy 7:1-6

        Still not convinced?

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

As for calling ones self a democracy: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20

YHWH chose this as the very first commandment for a reason, and that is to remind you that you shall call yourselves by no other name, or be governed by no other, except YHWH.

Thank you, Ann, for welcoming me to disagree with you.

      • October 3, 2011 at 4:13 pm

It makes them chosen but for other things Ann. The deed to the land of Israel, and everywhere else for that matter, belongs to God still. Israel is leased to the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob forever. Israel is a nation where Jews can be openly Jewish, and not forced to live in ghettos without equal access to the state’s resources like hospitals and universities. It is a place where a Jew can rise to any level of society without outide restrictions. It is a nation where Jews may freely own land and do business.

Israel is not a “Jewish only state” as you think. It is in fact is one of the most ethnically diverse nations on earth open to Jews from any country in the world that wishes Israeli citizenship. Also a fact is that there are a great number of Israeli citizens that are not Jewish. All citizens of Israel, regardless of religion, enjoy every benefit and opportunity within the nation that is available to Jews. Non-Jews in Israel may even be elected to and serve in positions in government.

There are many official Muslim states and Christian states. You may be familiar with many cases in many Muslim states where Christians and Jews are persecuted and even killed for their beliefs. Currently, a Christian pastor, Youcef Nadarkhani, was inprisoned in Iran and charged with Apostacy against Islam. He was threatened with a grizzly death sentence if he refused to renounce his religion. He refused three times, and now, because of world outcry, they’ve changed his charges to rape, extortion and national security. This is CNN reporting. He still faces the death penalty.

You claim to be Jewish Ann. Is it possible that you are wrong, and that you’ve been lied to about Israel by those that would see it destroyed? I’m sure you’ve heard of the Hallocaust. About 6 million Jews died because of the irrational hatred of Jews. There was no Jewish nation at the time they died, so it wasn’t merely because of Israel and Zionism like you seem to believe that they were killed.

The fact is that they, along with millions of other good people died for no good or valid reason except for the actions and irrational hatred of evil people. This is the true face of genocide. I agree that it’s no joy being hated Ann, but why do you share the hatred held by evil people? If you really are Jewish like you say, then you have a home in Israel.

Don’t be so quick to believe the lies. Israel is an amazing gift to the Jewish people. Israel wants nothing more than to live in peace and to try to help make themselves and the world a better place. Do not covet thy neighbor’s gift. What you see in the news every day is the result.

        Hi Anna,

God does not play favorites among His people, however, the Bible does tell us that God’s chosen people are the Jewish race because they were the ONLY ones to obey Him in lieu of other gods.

Deuteronomy 7:6 says, “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” This does not mean they are automatically “saved” and will go to Heaven. In order to assurance of eternal life in heaven, one must believe in God’s Son, Jesus. Because of God’s Promise to redeem the Jews in the end times, Israel will turn to her Messiah and be saved. So, in the meantime, any believers in Jesus are “grafted in” and may partake of the Tree of Life.

In my view you are both wrong. G-d is the one who did the choosing, so evidently its okay to favor one over another. Is someone prepared to say G=d is wrong? Second, i disagree with the Christian view, of course you are entitled to your opinion and belief system, but I refer you to the 10 commandments, commandment # 1. I hope that is not offensive to you but I reserve the right to also have my opinion and belief system.

I believe that we are in the “Generation of the Fig Tree” near the end of the 6,000 years that the Bible/Torah seems to point toward. I have seen various interpretations of Jewish calendars relative to today. It would appear to me that the end of this generation would be around the year AD 2028. I’m not trying to prophesy the end of days, only that the scriptures seem to be pointing somewhere around there.

I appreciate your work here Dolpheena, todah rabbah. James, your rhetoric is not helpful. Americans are not “inbred mutts”, they are human beings, each with at least some worth.
Your quotes from the Tanakh sound rather…Islamic.

Most Jews support equality for all, while preserving Jewish culture, minus the hate that you cull from Tanakh.
    See http://www.iishj.org/

Only a stupid person would dispute Israel’s right to exist, or deny the great contributions to the world from Jews. However, Israel under Likud, etc, is cutting its own throat by not standing for human rights and dignity for all within its borders now. It is not “anti-semitic” to say this, nor is it even” anti-Jewish”.

    • dolpheena said,

      April 2, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Where do you get the idea Likud does not stand for human rights for all? There are no human rights violations in Israel regardless which party is in power, make no mistake. People need to realize these cries of abuse from our Arab opponents is a ploy against us due to terror or war has failed.having failed. For you to say this is gives strength to their claims, but I as an Israeli know it isn’t factual. In fact, if anyone faces discrimination, it is the settlers of Judea +Samaria who were brave enough to populate the area even though they are often attacked by terrorists & demonized by world media.

  18. April 2, 2011 at 5:10 pm

dolpheena is correct here. The Israelis have afforded the Arabs both inside Israel (Israeli Arabs, who I think still pay no or little taxes at the national level, maybe just sales taxes) and those outside their borders in places like the West Bank and Gaza all the reasonable protections a small nation can do. If any of the Arabs–even “fighters” who are wounded in battle–need aid, the Jews are more than happy to assist for humanitarian reasons. Ditto for issues of general health as can be practical. No nation on earth has to put up with as much nonsense in the international community’s jabberings about “rights” as Israel, when in fact most nations would have long ago just liquidated the enemies sworn to destroy them (STILL THE PA and PLOs stated goal, and this has NEVER changed per even leaders like Abbas to the very day).

It’s absurd to ponder the very fictions like “negotiations” and a so-called “Palestinian State”, when in the first place such never historically existed except in theminds of Western leftist analysts across the ocean or from Europe getting their noses into Israel’s business. More too, “palestine” was a slur word invented by the Roman to take a jab at the Jews. It was never a nation per se, but merely a general region. Another issue: It is untrue the Jews just suddenly happened upon their old homeland one day. Actually they’ve had residence ties to the region for over 3000 years, and even survived the onslaught of Romans, Ottomans, British, and later the Muftis who ruled the region with an iron fist.

But in the immediate sense, the biggest problem in this “human rights” game is that polls taken over and over from “palestinian” leadership and the general population of the WB and Gaza indicate that no amount of compromise with Israel is sufficient. The Arabs wish for all of Israel to be destroyed. It’s that simple. When the PA has kids programs teaching the youth about geography and history, Jerusalem is “holy Muslim city that belongs to the palestinians”, as do Tel Aviv, Haifa, Acre, and all the rest. PA shows children singing Jihad type songs praising martydom and telling of how “Tel Aviv is calling our people home for Allah”, etc.

On and on it goes. The true blind spots are Western diplomats who just simply can’t get past their multi-cultural mush long enough to see these realities, and so they bury their heads. The current leader of the PA, Abbas, has said over and over that he will NEVER recognize Israel as a legitimate state, and no amount of territorial concessions will make a difference in the long run.

So the issue is not what idiot American diplomats in the current administration think–it all boils down to what the PA thinks–and nothing will change until that organization changes. When Jewish children can sleep not worrying about cut throats and dead parents and no more of that Arabian/Gaza tongue-trilling and candy-handouts are seen or performed by the palestinians, then perhaps peace can come to the region.

Until such time, this whole thing about a “two state” solution is a game the PA plays that they themselves hardly believe in.

I could not have said it better myself, excellent!!! Thank you, Wakefield.

  19. April 2, 2011 at 5:29 pm

As to Ann’s commentary above, in fact Israel DOES allow people of many other faiths and backgrounds and ethnicities to come and live in Israel. However, like all nations on earth, Israel cannot allow just the floodgates to open. That might happen in places like the US, which is 3000 miles across rather than just a few, like Israel. No nation on earth defined by either culture or ethnicity can allow EVERYONE who wishes to stop by to set up shop or residence. That’s absurd, and the international community’s hypocrisy is absurd for the fact that no Arab nation is open to foreigners other than contract workers and fellow Arabs. Indeed, only Jordan has been known to take on large numbers of the so-called palestinians. But even this is severly restricted. And foreign workers in Arab lands like Saudi Arabia are restricted to what they can do, where they can go, and other issues like dress codes for females, public appearance, prohibition of alcoholic beverages, and promotion of other religions besides Islam. Israel does none of this.

There are differing degrees of this, true, but while foreigners who are on a temporary work visa might be given some leeway and allowances, you can still get in a lot of trouble–or be expelled–from many Arab lands for promoting something other than Islam, or what they deem inappropriate behavior, etc.

As far as the phrase “Chosen People”, my understanding is that THAT issues was God’s special providence for the Jews to proclaim his word. It does not mean God finds the Jews superior, but rather than they were chosen to spread knowledge of His blessings to all men. As you might know, elsewhere in the Torah (the part Christians call the “Old Testement”) God explains that He is certainly “no respector of persons”, which means that God does not favor one group over another by virtue of them just being people of one group or identity.

So the terms need to be taken in proper context.

Wakefield, you teach much and I learned so much as your 18th and 19th posts. Love to get to know you better. We in America have opened our borders, far too wide in my opinion. While I have no problem with legal immigrants who want to live the American way of life, we’ve allowed too many who mean to destroy us from within. Israel cannot allow this, and I applaud IDF for their diligence.

What I see is this. We’re threatened and we cave. Simply put, we’re afraid they’re going to wage jihad and we make concessions in the name of “peace”. We need to stand up and fight instead of lay down in ignorance. America, wake up and listen! Wakefield’s comments are spot-on. Do we stand there and take it when a bully beats up on us? No. As a Christian, we’re supposed to turn the other cheek, but I don’t think God wants Israel divided. He sent King David to war, and us as well. We fight evil, and I really don’t think God wants us to ignore it. “Palestine” is a word that divides, and I wonder just how many “Palestinians” have been caught up in the madness. Israel belongs to God, and whoever lives within her borders should respect that, live in peace, or leave. I pray the Holy Spirit upon Israel right now, to protect her, to give her strength, and to bring salvation to all beloved of God. He loves Isaac and Ishmael, and calls both to redemption.

Mohamed of Israel, I love your words. My heart too, is a room for all Israeli people, and for you. Bless you, Mohamed.
